About the program
The illuminate Challenge for small groups delivered nationally, in your school or across the term.
Since 2017, the illuminate Challenge has been a fixture in the City of Hume – offering every high school in the region week-long challenge where student thinking directly informs Hume City Council’s economic development strategy. In 2026, the program moves to a new home: Hume Tech School.
The partnership with Hume City Council means the challenge briefs are shaped around real local priorities – not generic themes. Students tackle issues that actually affect the community they live in, with council representatives and industry partners in the room as mentors and judges. The insights gathered directly influence regional economic development strategy.
Hume Tech School brings a new dimension to the 2026 program – a purpose-built learning environment that reflects the technology and innovation context students are working in, and a venue that gives the program the scale and presence it has grown into over nearly a decade.
